I think Microsoft expects slow sales with the Zune at first - they're trying to build a brand, they've got to start somewhere. But they could have done a much better job with this launch - they've got buggy install software, they don't have an iTunes competitor, and the player is just too big to compete with the iPod.

Although Microsoft is clearly ahead in the OS market, the browser market, and the productivity-software market, they're losing their lead. Apple is gaining market share daily, and it's clear they've got a technical edge over Vista with Tiger / Leopard. Microsoft isn't invincible. They lost the server market to Apache and MySQL, and they're sliding in the browser market to Firefox. They're not guaranteed the lead forever.
